When everyone seems to abandoned high stakes online you have to give Victor “Isuldur1” Blom props for taking on all comers at the highest stakes in a variety of games. If only he hadn’t played poker that night he lost $4.1M…
I loved the BLUFF cover of Tom Dwan back in the day with the title “King of the nosebleeds” and a picture of Tom with a trickle of blood coming from his nose. “I want to be that guy” I thought splashing wild amounts of money around whilst looking completely relaxed even when running sick bluffs.
He apparently was up $1.7M from those sessions.I’m looking forward to his return, will the game have passed him by? Did he really go broke? An old pro once told me “If you don’t see them in Vegas during the WSOP they are broke…”
Joey Ingram is very excited his video below shows some classic Tom moments.

For me the key value in AK lies in its fold equity. I’m not a fan of calling big all ins to find I’m getting 46% or so. I’ve seen Negreanu fold AK to a 4-Bet and if you are deep I would agree in tournaments where survival is key and there may be better spots. That’s my view watch the video and decide what you think…
I always learnt from books but James “SplitSuit” Sweeny has great quizzes which you should do and then check his answer videos. He puts it on a plate for you if you can’t be bothered you’ll never make it!
On holiday in Portugal by the pool listening to Dan Cates bring interviewed by Doug Polk. These are long but worth the listen as you always learn something of interest. I found the section on Isuldur of great interest…
Spent the morning watching Doug Polk’s Phil Helmuth interview.
I was once alone in a lift with Phil in the Aria Suites just me and him.
“How’s the day goin’ Phil?” I said in far from a whisperI made it loud as he had his headset on.
He was facing me with his headphones on and completely blanked me. I couldn’t help but think he was a big time prick as we left the lift. Other people I told that story to over the tables in Vegas said they’d met him and he had been great.
Doug’s interview gives some insight into the man. For me anyone who has the gall to think when getting paid $25K a time to attend charity events you can add the event money raised total to YOUR “raised for charity” number is clearly a bit of a dick. IMHO. If I ever get himover the tables I’ll bring it up, I’ll still read his book…but I ain’t buying no mescal…
Make your own mind up here
Popped into Aspers and played the £40 £1K Gtd tournament with a 10K starting stack. Total prize pool was £1,500.
Key hands, first I flatted A10 on the button for 600 facing an UTG limp and the SB completed before the BB jammed for 8K I called to be shown A7 suited and held.
With 10 players left and paying 5 I open K9 from the button to 3,500 with blinds at 600/1,200 200 ante 6 handed, I got called by SB and BB. King high flop was checked through and when a 6 hit the turn the SB jammed for 52K. The BB folded and I called to be shown a flopped set of 7s. Thinking about it I should have let it go the bet made no sense but I should have just let it go and kept my 20BB stack and found a better spot. I didn’t go through the script…”If it is a vlaue bet what hands would value bet…” I just saw the chips and given the strange play called….perhaps discretion would have been the better part of valour.
Horrible journey home having missed another good spot to make some good money it was £500 for first and I had to decided to play through and do no deal.
I need to work on folding more I seem to call to often when I’m beat at crucial points in a tournament.
Watch Daniel Negreanu show you how it is done…
